When I think about all the choices I’ve made in college thus far, there’s two that often stand out. I consider them some of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The first was to apply for College Fashionista and the second was to go through sorority recruitment and join Alpha Sigma Alpha. I talk about CF a lot here, it’s given me opportunities to incorporate my passion for fashion journalism into my education even though it’s not my major and has allowed me to to have my work published, but I feel like I’ve barely dove into the sorority topic on this little blog of mine.
So some background:
I never ever EVER thought I would join a sorority. Growing up, Greek Life was never something I thought I’d be a part of. When I was looking at colleges, I didn’t care at all if there was Greek Life on campus but oddly enough, the second I got to school my opinions started to change.
For the first time, I could see myself enjoying being a member of a sorority and I started to get so excited about it. Before I knew it, I was spending long nights Instagram stalking the chapters present on Loyola’s campus and mentally planning outfits for rush week. I even went as far as to put down my deposit for recruitment. But at the very last moment, I chickened out and instantaneously regretted it.
Fast forward to this fall when I realized Alpha Sigma Alpha was having informal recruitment. I was initially nervous because there was only one sorority recruiting but I decided to go through with it. As soon I began to meet my future sisters and learn more about ASA, I realized it was exactly where I would have ended up if I had gone through recruitment as a freshman so you can only imagine my excitement when I received a bid!
I’ve gone from being someone who never wanted to be involved in Greek Life to someone who can’t get enough! From sisterhood events to leadership positions I try to take advantage of every opportunity presented. But, surprisingly enough, one of the most exciting sorority related opportunities has come from College Fashionista.
After going through recruitment, I pitched an article to College Fashionista about styling sorority letter T-Shirts. I spent time interviewing peers about how they rocked their letters before compiling outfit ideas based on what they told me. I got so into writing the article and it turned out to be a huge hit. Just last week, College Fashionista reached out to me and asked me to write two more articles about Greek Life; for the first, I spoke to sorority girls all over the country and asked what they wished they knew before recruitment and for the second, I created a fashion forward rush week outfit guide!
Writing these stories has allowed my two worlds to combine and it’s been SO. MUCH. Fun. I’d love for you to check them out!
