Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the future of xokateday.com and what I want it to evolve into. I started this blog with the intention of it being a place for me to share fashion and college lifestyle content, but, I’m now realizing that I want it to be something even more. I want this little blog to be a place where my followers feel like they truly know me and I can form real relationships with my readers. I want to get personal.
So I’ve got the What? but now I need the How?
I’ve been brainstorming where to start these more personal posts and I’ve been very back and forth with ideas. Funny enough, the return of Project Runway is what actually gave me the inspiration for this post. It’s a quote that’s so simple but I feel like it says so much about me and my outlook and attitude towards life. My words to live by.
Make it Work.
I was first exposed to this phrase during the first season I ever watched of Project Runway, Season 6 I believe (it’s crazy to think that I’ve been watching this show for 10 seasons… I feel old!!). If you watch the show, you know that this is the phrase our beloved mentor, Tim Gunn, utters to designers when there’s a dress disaster causing fashion chaos breaks loose. While this is the phrase that I think to myself when I look in the mirror in the morning and something about my outfit is just not right, it is also so much more.
It was the first phrase that popped into my head when I found out I’d have to wear a back brace for my scoliosis; when my parents signed me up for cross country with no prior running experience (and no desire on my part); when I did a brief stint in wheelchair after getting a stress fracture in my femur (ironically, from running too much); when I completely changed my senior year art class thesis one month before it was due and had to rework everything; and, most recently, when my roommates and I realized our apartment was a completely different layout than expected. These words get me over huge mountains and tiny little hurdles. They really are my words to live by.
As my sophomore year of college begins, these words couldn’t be more relevant. I’ve set a lot of goals for this semester, ranging from finding a job to developing better study habits, working out more and eating better. Between all that, a 15 credit course load, getting more involved on campus, my internship with college fashionista, and xokateday.com, I’ll certainly be busy. I want to make sophomore year MY year and I know to accomplish that I’ll have to find balance, dedication, and make it work!
